Following a recent merger and refinancing between the Southern Co-op and the Co-op Group, we are looking for a proactive and highly skilled Cash and Capital Accountant to join our team on a 9 month fixed term basis.
As part of the merger, Southern’s business has been acquired by Siena Co-operative Limited, a 100% subsidiary of the Co-op Group. In this newly created role, you will take ownership of Siena’s financial assets, cash flow, liquidity and capital spend. Working closely with the Finance Director, you will be instrumental in minimizing financial risk, managing vital funding relationships, optimising working capital to ensure we have robust funding for our operational needs and upcoming integration initiatives. As well as the continuous monitoring and reporting of capital expenditure against expectations.
What You Will Be Doing
As our Cash and Capital Accountant, you will be at the forefront of building on and improving our current processes. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Cash & Liquidity Management: Direct daily cash operations and execute accurate short- and long-term cash flow forecasting. You will work cross-functionally with the wider business and migration teams to ensure migration and integration plans are accurately reflected in Siena’s cash flows.
- Banking & Facility Relations: Act as the primary day-to-day contact for our banking partners and the Coop Group. You will manage credit lines, negotiate banking fees, and ensure strict compliance with intercompany loan agreements, asset backed finance, and hire purchase agreements.
- Cashflow Analysis & Reporting: Prepare regular cash flow variance analysis, investigating the key drivers behind the numbers. You will report cash flow, net debt, and covenant forecasts to the Coop Group while making strategic recommendations to Siena’s CFO/FD on cash utilisations and drawdowns.
- Investment & Capital Reporting: Prepare regular capital spend variance analysis, working with key stakeholders to understand and plan for changes in timing and scope of expenditure and report the impact upon future cashflow expectations.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Champion the continuous improvement of our cashflow and capital management and forecasting systems, driving automation and implementing robust financial controls. Trouble shooting and working with the team members to problem solve barriers impeding data flow and reporting accuracy.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Proven background in Cashflow Modelling and Management role in a high volume data environment, ideally with experience managing cash flows during corporate integrations, mergers, or refinancing events. Having an eye for detail, though also the ability to filter through significant data feeds to concentrate and focus on what matters most and articulate that through clear and concise outputs.
- Qualifications: A relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACT / AMCT, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills with a track record of producing cashflow forecast models balancing scenario flexibility and accuracy, variance analysis, and covenant reporting.
- Relationship Building: Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to confidently negotiate with financial institutions and manage relationships with a parent company/group. As well as adapting their communication style to the appropriate level for the varying audience.
- System Savvy: Experience in improving or implementing cashflow systems, with a keen eye for driving automation and tightening financial controls.
